||Removal Impurities from Metallurgical Silicon by Slag Treatment Combined with Acid Leaching

Slag treatment and acid leaching are the effective methods to remove boron from metallurgical grade silicon (MG-Si) to solar grade silicon (SoG-Si) by metallurgical route. In order to prepare SoG-Si from MG-Si, a purification method to MG-Si using a CaO-SiO2-CaCl2 slag treatment combined with an acid leaching (HF-HCl) technique was studied in this paper. By studying different experimental conditions of slag basicity (CaO/SiO2), refining time and mass ratio of slag to silicon, the order of metallic impurity removal efficiency of Fe, Al, Ca, Ti was confirmed. The removal of non-metallic impurity boron in silicon was given priority to consideration. At the same time, the mechanism of imprities removal using the combined technique was studied and elaborated.
