||Inhibitive Influence of Cephalexin Compound on Degradation Characteristics of Mild Steel in NaCl Medium

The corrosion effect and corrosion inhibition of cephalexin compound on mild steel in 3.65 mol.dm-3 NaCl solution have been investigated using potentiostatic polarization and gravimetric technique. The main results obtained were expressed in terms of corrosion (Ec) and corrosion current (ic). The addition of cephalexin compound on the corrosion of mild steel to the chloride solution caused a decrease in the values of ic and drastic change in the values of some degradation parameters. Experimental observation indicated that cephalexin effectively inhibited the steel corrosion at the concentrations analyzed with a maximum inhibition efficiency of over 70%. This significant performance is due to the electrochemical activities and inhibition of the steel by the ionized molecules of the inhibiting compound which affect the behavioral mechanism of the redox reactions responsible to corrosion and surface deterioration. Adsorption fit was checked and the Inhibitor adsorption fits the Langmuir isotherm model.
