Abstract Scope |
A three-dimensional network-woven structure of TiB whiskers was synthesized in the Ti matrix by spark plasma sintering. The TiB whiskers nucleated near the network of surfaces of the Ti powder particles via the reaction between the Ti and borides powder particles, while part of the whiskers penetrated into the Ti matrix forming a woven structure. High strength and good ductility were achieved in the titanium matrix composites. The size of the network was tailored. Finite element modeling and corrosion resistance tests were conducted to assess the mechanical and corrosive properties of the tailored structure. |
