Abstract Scope We demonstrate smart design and fabrication of energy storage devices (supercapacitors and batteries) from flexible textiles such as carbon fibers and cotton-derived activated carbon textiles. Flexible textiles wrapped with graphene and active materials exhibited an exceptional combination of electrochemical properties. The eminent electrochemical performance is ascribed to the unique core/shell nanostructure with high surface/volume ratio, short ion transport path, and fast charge transport. Flexible supercapacitors and lithium-sulfur with exceptionally high capacity and extended lifespan will be presented. Such hierarchical nanostructures on textile-enabled flexible textile substrate should find more applications in next-generation flexible power sources for future wearable electronics.
