||OO-19: Effects of Resistance Spot Welding on the Mechanical Properties in High Strength Steels

Advanced high strength steels are attractive for automotive applications due to their good strength and ductility properties. However, few researches regarding the weldability of high strength steel have been presented. The proper welding of the steels is highly required for their automotive industry application. In this study, resistance spot welding was performed on the steels to examine their fusion weldability and mechanical properties. Two types of steels were spot welded and their weldability was compared to examine the effect of chemical composition on the joint properties. Weldments were characterized and discusedd based on the metallography, tensile and Vickers hardness tests.
