About this Abstract
Meeting Materials Science & Technology 2012
Symposium Raymond W. Buckman, Jr. Memorial Symposium for Refractory Metals and Alloys
Presentation Title Strategies and Test Methods for Evaluating Materials at High Temperatures
Author(s) Samuel Jay Causey
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Samuel Jay Causey
Abstract Scope Several test methods that have been adapted for testing at high temperatures are briefly described. Concentration is placed on the tensile, shear modulus and free thermal expansion tests. Also discussed are some problems that are normally encountered in testing materials at high temperatures along with approaches for solutions. Most notably is the compatibility between test hardware and the test material. Some basic statements of philosophy are presented along with impacts on testing methodology. The discussion emphasizes refractory metals and technical ceramics.
