||Sulfation Roasting of Nickel Sulfide Concentrate in the Presence of Sodium Sulfate

Sulfation roasting technique carries the potential to extract valuable metals from multi-metal sulfide minerals. The effects of roasting conditions and dosage of sodium sulfate on voluble metal leaching rates were investigated. In addition, the mechanism of sulfation roasting in the presence of sodium sulfate were studied by TG-DSC, XRD and SEM. The results show that the optimal sulfation roasting temperature range is between 600 oC and 700 oC with the addition of 10 wt% sodium sulfate, and the leaching rates of Ni, Co and Cu were carried out to achieve more than 60%. The formed liquid phase (Na2S2O7), which was acted as a reservoir of SO3 during the sulfation process, had important role in promotion of sulfation degree of nonferrous metals. And thus sodium sulfate is beneficial to sulfation roasting of nickel sulfide concentrate and improve the leaching rate of valuable metals.
