Abstract Scope |
Zr-Cu-Ni are ternary alloy systems with a high glass forming ability and provide a base model system to study the glass forming ability of bulk metallic glasses.
Measurements of growth velocity as a function of undercooling in the environment of reduced gravity compared with the ones measured on ground show an abnormal behavior at high undercoolings.
The temperature-dependent electrical resistivity of metallic liquids is important for casting processes. During parabolic flights we measured the electrical conductivity of Zr-Cu(-Ni) alloys.
For modelling the crystallization kinetics from the undercooled melt, other thermophysical parameters are necessary. The specific heat and enthalpy of fusion were measured by differential scanning calorimetry from solid to liquid state.
All results are part of the MULTIPHAS project.
