Abstract Scope In recent decades, high-Mn austenitic steels have attracted great attention due to their outstanding mechanical properties combining high strength and large ductility, which are believed to result from Twinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) effect. Meanwhile, many of the carbon containing high-Mn austenitic steels exhibit serrated flow during tensile deformation. While there was a great progress in understanding the TWIP effect in high-Mn austenitic steels, most of researches up to now regarding serration behavior in high-Mn austenitic steels have been descriptive in its intrinsic role on work hardening and deformation. In the present study, 22Mn-0.6C high-Mn austenitic steel was used. Serrated flow was observed during tensile deformation, and strain localization was successfully quantified with the aid of digital image correlation (DIC) method. In addition, the effect of serration behavior on deformation was investigated during tensile test by using in-situ XRD method. Detailed results will be shown and discussed in the presentation.
