Abstract Scope Al-Sc alloy is a potential material for high performance electrical wire and cables. In this research, the electrical and mechanical properties of Al-0.1Sc (wt%), Al-0.2Sc(wt%), Al-0.4Sc(wt%), Al-0.5Sc(wt%), and Al-1Sc (wt%) were investigated and compared with that of high-purity (HP) Aluminum. With the increase of the Scandium concentration, the yield strength and ultimate strength are remarkably improved, e.g. the yield strength of Al-0.1Sc is three times larger than that of pure Al. Although the electrical conductivity decreases with the adding of scandium, the multistage heat treatment is helpful for the recovery of electrical property. As a result, the Al-0.4Sc shows the best combination of electrical and mechanical property.
