||Corrosion Behavior and Passivation Mechanisms in FCC High Entropy Alloys

High entropy alloys with a single-phase FCC structure have a suite of desirable properties including high corrosion resistance. The corrosion mechanism in FCC high entropy alloys was investigated in as-cast, rolled, annealed, and thin-film forms. The role of alloy chemistry and processing condition in determining the nature of the passivation layer and corrosion behavior was investigated. The corrosion behavior of several HEAs were evaluated in NaCl solution. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were performed to understand the corrosion mechanisms. Raman and auger surface spectroscopy were employed to identify the corrosion products and passivation layers.
