Symposium ICME Infrastructure Development for Accelerated Materials Design: Data Repositories, Informatics, and Computational Tools

Abstract Scope Multiphase advanced high strength steels (AHSS) development is fertile ground for ICME. However, prediction of macroscale constitutive behavior based upon the multiscale physical, chemical, and mechanical phenomena in these complex microstructures is a formidable challenge. We will review a four-year, $6,000,000.00 DOE-funded program ICME program for Generation Three AHSS. Four thrusts which form the foundation of the ICME approach will be emphasized: (1) Material development: making Gen 3 steels to DOE targets, (2) Experienced-based modeling: steel is available and multi-scale experimentation provides data to calibrate and validate computational models. (3) Predictive modeling: new steels with improved properties must be predicted with little or no additional experimental data. (4) Data archiving/curating. We will emphasize how the program is meeting these challenges through a series of science and engineering tasks that are integrated across length scales to develop new Gen 3 steels and accurate constitutive behavior for commercial forming and performance codes.
