||Co-spray Forming Process of Supermartensitic Stainless Steel Based Bimetallic Pipes

Our research group has been developing functionalized boron modified stainless steel with enhanced wear resistance. This paper presents the processing of bimetallic pipes with inner layer of boron modified supermartensitic stainless steel (SMSS) and external layer of conventional SMSS. The main concept is to associate in a single product high wear , corrosion and mechanical resistance by layering functionalized materials based on the same alloy. Three pipes were co-spray formed in a spray forming plant with industrial features. The temperatures of the surface deposit were monitored and different spray and deposition conditions were applied in order to obtain both layers with low porosity and high homogeneity levels. It was found that pre-heating the substrate is essential to warranty the adherence of the boron modified SMSS and controlling the temperature of the deposition zone where the interface is formed is essential to produce a uniform interface with low porosity level.
