State of the art closed-loop controlled deep-drawing processes require additional actuators that are integrated into the tools with large effort and high costs.
This paper presents a novel tooling concept, which makes use of a unique forming machine, the 3D Servo Press. With three degrees of freedom in ram movement the deep-drawing process is controlled. By using the machine actuation for adapting the blank holder pressure through tilting the ram, no additional tool actuators are required. This combination of an adaptable tool and a highly actuated forming machine allows to control the material flow locally.
