||Unique Crystallization Dynamics by Flash DSC in Zn-based Metallic Glass

Due to the low glass transition temperature, low elastic modulus and good superplastic forming ability, Zn-based metallic glasses offer an attractive potential. The understanding of thermal stability and crystallization dynamics is of great importance for fundamental research and practical applications. In this study, by advanced Flash DSC with ultrafast heating and cooling rate, the thermal stability and crystallization behavior of a typical Zn-based metallic glass Zn41Ca27Mg14Yb18 are investigated along with its associated vitreous phase. The relationship between the transformation and the time/temperature scales of the alloys (TTT diagram) is established in a wide temperature range. The TTT curve shows an abnormal crystallization dynamic behavior and provides a novel insight in the influence of heterogeneity on crystallization dynamics in amorphous materials.
