| Abstract Scope |
Fabrication of silicon nitride ceramics by reaction bonding has advantages in the view point of green technology such as low raw material cost, and small shrinkage during nitridation and post sintering. Generally the sintering of silicon nitride ceramics requires sintering aids such as Y2O3, Al2O3, MgO and etc. These liquid phase remains in the grain corner and at grain boundary, resulting in degradation of high temperature mechanical properties. Silicon nitride with Lanthanoid oxide has been considered as a candidate for structural components in high temperature oxidizing environments because of its good high temperature strength. In this study, RBSN ceramics were prepared by starting from cheap Si powder with sintering additives such as Lu2O3-SiO2, La2O3-MgO and Y2O3-Al2O3. A dense silicon nitride ceramics with good mechanical properties were produced by nitridation and then hot pressing of RBSN with gas pressure. |
