||Development of a Thermodynamic Database for Mold Flux and Application to the Continuous Casting Process for Steelmaking

The recent progress of the thermodynamic database and kinetic model for steel continuous casting process will be presented. A thermodynamic database for the mold flux system CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-Na2O-K2O-Li2O-MnO-FeO-F has been built based on the critical evaluation and thermodynamic optimization of all reliable experimental thermodynamic and phase diagram data found in literature. In particular, the oxyfluoride liquid phase was described using the two-sublattice Modified Quasichemical Model. The database can be applied to the accurate calculation of the equilibrium solidification of mold flux. In order to simulate the chemical reactions between mold flux, liquid steel and inclusions during the casting process, a simple kinetic simulation tool was also developed based on the Effective Equilibrium Reaction Zone Model.
