Presentation Title A Set-Based Approach for Hierarchical Materials Design

Abstract Scope A set-based design approach will be introduced for mapping promising regions of a hierarchical materials design space. The approach utilizes Bayesian network classifiers for identifying sets of promising solutions to a materials design problem by efficiently utilizing information gained from simulations, experiments, and/or expert knowledge. Manufacturability and uncertainty can also be taken into account. The capabilities of the approach will be demonstrated by applying it to the hierarchical design of negative stiffness metamaterials for energy absorption applications.
