||Creep Related Microstructural Evolution of Alloy 617-based ODS Alloy

The very high temperature reactor (VHTR) is one of the promising advanced nuclear reactors of which the key components, such as intermediate heat exchanger and hot gas ducts, are anticipated to run at 900oC or above under 10 MPa. This put forward a severe challenge for materials of the superior creep properties and oxidation resistance, and oxide dispersion strengthened alloy has been widely considered as one of the good candidate materials for this system. In this study, alloy 617-based ODS alloy was prepared and the creep property was examined at 950 oC under 25 MPa. A much longer creep rupture life of 8,533 h was demonstrated, and the steady state creep rate of the ODS alloy sample was about 0.89×10-6 sec-1, one order of magnitude lower than that of the conventional alloy. The potential failure mechanism as well as the microstructural evolution is investigated in detail.
