In many respects, for improvement of the magnetic materials, contemporary approaches fully utilise only the fundamental process parameters: temperature, time and chemical composition. External electric and magnetic fields are additional fundamental variables altering materials, however, the understanding of these effects lingers on an empirical level and the potential of electric- and magnetic field assisted processing remains largely unexploited.
The main objective of this talk will be to give some specific answers to the following general question: How can external magnetic fields or electric currents act on the arrangement of internal atomic defects, local structural or chemical disorder, or extended defects inside (poly-) crystalline magnetic materials in such a controlled and efficient way that specific functional properties of the material become significantly enhanced in a positive manner?
