||Microstructure Evolution of a Bulk-metallic-glass Matrix Composite Subjected to Different Deformations

The relaxation of deformation in a bulk-metallic-glass matrix composite solids are heterogeneous. In this presentation, through in-situ synchrotron x-ray diffraction and molecular dynamics simulations of a Zr-based metallic systems, we show that different levels of relaxation, the local configurational arrangements in the amorphous matrix and crystal dendrites, respectively. We also demonstrate the kinetics between the amorphous and the crystal configurational evolution subjected to the applied force. These discoveries open the way to the explanation of plasticity in bulk-metallic-glass matrix composite.
