| Abstract Scope |
In this study, the effect of titanium on the 900MPa grade HSLA multipass welds was investigated. The weld metals for evaluating the effect of titanium in the range of 0.1-0.17% were produced using a metal-cored arc welding (MCAW). It was observed that a decrease in titanium content promoted an increase in impact toughness due to the formation of the acicular ferrite. The inclusions in the weld metal having the best impact toughness consists of several kinds of titanium oxide, such as TiO, TiO2 and Ti2O3, etc. Therefore, the correlation of microstructural evolution of HSLA steel welds with titanium content of the metal-cored wires and impact toughness are discussed. |
