| Abstract Scope |
Modern aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopes offer new opportunities for
in-situ experiments with unprecedented spatial resolution. In this contribution we report
on recent in-situ observations of magnetic domain wall motion in ferromagnetic shape memory
alloys, a class of materials that reveals a strain due to martensite variant rearrangements
in response to an applied magnetic field. We have used a dedicated magnetizing holder
with a range of -300 to +300 Oe to study the magnetization reversal (partial hysteresis loops)
in a number of systems, including Ni-Mn-Ga and Fe-Pd alloys. We will report on the direct
observation of domain wall motion under an applied field, as well as high resolution aberration corrected Lorentz images of magnetic domain walls. |
