||Short range order observed in NbTaTiVZr using scanning transmission electron microscopy

We will show the short-range order (SRO) in NbTaTiVZr from energy-filtered diffraction. The deviation of lattice distortions between direct lattice distortions factors measured by scanning transmission electron microscopy and indirectly measured lattice-distortions factors calculated from the theory will be shown and discussed for NbTaTiV and NbTaTiVZr. In comparison with the direct and the indirectly measured results, we found that the there was a significant difference for the NbTaTiVZr sample, which may result from the SRO. From the intensity distribution of high angle annular dark-field with scanning transmission electron microscope (HAADF-STEM) images, the SRO was observed as well. It indicates the unfavored Nb-Zr bond and the preferred Ti-Zr, V-Zr, Zr-Ta, and Nb-Ta bonds. The Monte Carlo simulations with first-principles cluster expansions confirm the existence of SRO and the bonding preference trends.
