||OO-27: Investigation of Process Parameters for the Nickel Coatings from Sulphamate Baths

Nickel electrodeposition technique is widely used for both decorative purposes and functional engineering applications. Although the performance of Watts solution is satisfactory for most of the cases, some engineering applications like electroforming requires nickel sulphamate electrolytes because they enable deposition at higher rates and lower internal stresses. Boric acid and nickel chloride concentrations, bath temperature and applied current density were chosen as the parameters to optimize mechanical properties of nickel coatings. A statistical experiment design was used to provide the best combination of experiments in sulphamate baths. The coatings were characterized by measurements of coating thickness and its distribution, hardness, surface morphology and internal stress.
