||Fabrication of Ultrafine Grained Plates with Low Anisotropy of Mechanical Properties

One of potential applications of ultrafine grained materials are intermediate products for further superplastic forming. To satisfy the demands for superplastic deformation material should feature particular microstructure such as fine equiaxial grains with low density of dislocations and large content of high angle grain boundaries. As a further requirement, it is desired that products are in the form of sheet or plate to limit the number of technological steps in order to produce the final product. To overcome all these limitations we propose a novel approach to produce plates with uniform ultrafine grained structure, namely incremental equal channel angular pressing. The evaluation of mechanical properties of the plates obtained in this way confirms their low anisotropy and the potential for further deep drawing. Microstructure observations explained this behavior by revealing uniform, equiaxial ultrafine grained structure.
