Abstract Scope Composites reinforced with lignocellulosic natural fibers are studied worldwide as a new greener alternative. Among the polymeric materials reinforced with fibers, many can be mentioned, such as panels for sealing, lining, ecological tiles and industrial floors, among them, the High Performance Coating (HPC). The Brazilian standard for HPC, ABNT NBR-14050, dictates that HPC uses epoxy resin as matrix. Therefore, this work had two main objectives, first to determine if it is possible to use a castor oil based polyurethane resin instead of epoxy and to compare the performance of two composite reinforcements, coconut and piassava fibers. The two eco-friendly materials were produced using piassava or coconut fibers as reinforcement both ground (separately) in a knife mill and fibers were added from 10 up to 30% of volume fraction. Generally, the piassava composites presented better compressive strength. However, both composites presented satisfactory standard performance.
