Abstract Scope Jackson-Hunt (JH) analysis has been the most successful theory till date for estimating growth kinetics of directional solidification of eutectic/eutectoid alloys. However, given the assumptions invoked for simplifying the theory, it is still far from being complete. One such major simplification is the non-consideration of curvatures in the transformation front. Furthermore, in its current form, the theory is applicable in the limited regime of near-eutectic compositions and small lamellar spacings where the growth morphology is non-oscillatory. That is, kinetics associated with two modes of oscillatory lamellar growth cannot be analyzed within the scope of JH theory. To sum up, if curvatures occur in solid-liquid interfaces or in solid-solid interfaces, the classical formulation is technically invalid. This shortcoming of the classical analysis is overcome in our study. The modified analysis is first-order accurate in peclet number and predicts faster kinetics when solid-liquid curvatures are present and slower in solid-solid case.
