Abstract Scope |
In the present study for bainite transformation to clarify the alloying effect, bainite transformation kinetics is examined in Fe-0.4C-1.5/3Si alloys isothermally transformed at 773K and 723K. Point counting on scanning electron microscopy images, X-ray diffraction and atom probe tomography were employed to determine volume fraction of transformed austenite, the retained austenite volume fraction and carbon concentration in untransformed austenite, respectively. Premature cessation of bainite transformation, i.e. incomplete transformation is observed at 723K for Fe-0.4C-3Si alloy. On the other hand, bainite transformation proceeds quickly to finish for Fe-0.4C-1.5Si alloy at 723K and for both alloys at 773K with carbide precipitation. In the microstructure observation, with increasing the Si concentration and lowering the transformation temperature, inhabitation of carbide precipitation was recognized. It is considered that, due to carbon enrichment into untransformed austenite, the incomplete transformation is pronounced in the high Si addition. |
