||Develop a Diffusivity Database for Mg Alloys Using Diffusion Multiples and Liquid-Solid Diffusion Couples

Magnesium alloys have great potential for weight reduction of vehicles in transportation sector. Insufficient diffusion data for Mg alloys especially for some key alloying elements is hindering the design of high performance Mg alloys using the ICME (Integrated Computational Materials Engineering) approach. Diffusion multiples and liquid-solid diffusion couples are employed to obtain diffusion profiles for Mg-containing binary systems of Mg-Al-Zn-Sn-Ca-Sr-Nd-Mn-Zr. A forward-simulation method is then used to effectively extract both interdiffusion and impurity diffusion coefficients from the collected diffusion profiles. A diffusivity database for Mg alloys is established along with critically evaluated literature data. This diffusivity database will fills the gap in diffusivity data of Mg alloys.
