||A New Approach to Align CNTs in CNT Films

In this talk, We will present a new technique to align carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in CNT films produced by floating catalyst method. The floating catalyst technique can produce CNT films in large-scale, but the individual CNTs in the films are usually not well aligned, which significantly lowers the physical and mechanical properties of the CNT films. The approach reported here, shear stretching, can significantly improve the CNT alignments and consequently improve the electrical conductivity and strength significantly. The combination of high strength and excellent electrical paves the way for such CNT films to be applied in new electronic technologies and high-strength lightweight aerospace applications.
