Symposium Powder Metallurgy of Light Metals
Presentation Title Light Weight Automotive Trends Impact on Powder Metallurgy
Author(s) Ian William Donaldson
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Ian William Donaldson
Abstract Scope Current and upcoming fuel economy and CO2 emissions standards and fuel economy objectives are driving the automotive sector to develop technical solutions for reducing vehicle weight by various means, including utilizing innovative designs or lightweight materials. This initiative for lightweight vehicles results in materials technology being considered at the forefront and critically as part of initial designs. But these solutions quite often have cost and technical challenges that must be overcome, regardless of the type industry. For powder metallurgy, overcoming these barriers will be crucial if the industry wants to maintain market share in the Body & Chassis and Powertrain segments, areas which it has traditionally seen significant use. This presentation will discuss automotive trends in lightweight and its impact on powder metallurgy.
Proceedings Inclusion? Planned: EPD Congress Volume
