Future magnetic devices need the saturation magnetization higher than 1.85 T. Therefore, we have calculated electronic structures of nanocrystalline Fe90-xCuxSi10-yBy using first principles calculations to obtain magnetic moments (B). The saturation magnetic flux density (Bs) of Fe90-xCuxSi10-yBy was calculated by Bs = Bsc·Vc/V + Bsa·Va/V, where V is the total volume. The subscript c and a represent the crystalline (Fe3Si) and amorphous (Fe-B) phase. The calculated Bs are: 1.35 T for Fe3Si, 2.08 T for Fe86B9, and 2.16 T for Fe73B5. It is noted that α-Fe crystallites are embedded in the amorphous Fe-B matrix. Therefore, the Bs of Fe88Cu2Si5B5 (Fe3Si + Fe73B5) and Fe89Cu1Si1B9 (Fe3Si + Fe86B9) were calculated to be 1.85 T and 2.03 T, respectively. These compositions are good candidates for future nanocrystalline soft alloys.
