Abstract Scope I am a doctoral candidate in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, and I intend to graduate in the summer of 2017. I received my master's degree from UT Austin in mechanical engineering in 2014. I received a B.S. in physics and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2012. As an undergraduate I investigated the properties of switchgrasses used for ethanol production and studied how patterned nanorods affect friction. For my master’s thesis, I studied the thermomechanical processing behavior of AA7075 aluminum sheet. I continued investigating thermomechanical processing issues with Ti-6-4. My doctoral research is on solidification microstructures in nickel alloy 718 ingots. My primary career objectives are: 1. to continuously challenge and improve my professional skills through my work, 2. to discover and implement new testing and characterization techniques, and 3. to develop and guide new materials into widespread engineering service.
