PT. Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) – hereinafter referred to as Inalum is the pioneer of the aluminium smelting in the South East Asia region. It was designed by Sumitomo Chemical and started up in February 1982 with an original capacity of 225,000 tons/year of ingot and an amperage 175 kA.
After transforming into a State Owned Company at the end of 2013, Inalum had an ambition to continue the optimizing of production to reach 300,000 tons/year of ingots by 2019. For the first step in 2014, Inalum successfully increased production up to 264,474 tons/year of ingots, which is more than 17.5% above the original capacity by increasing line current up to 207 kA.
The technical improvement objectives were increasing of production capacity by a new alumina feeding system, new pot design, anode performance improvement and increase of water turbine efficiency.
