||D-41: Study on Direct Reduction of Low-grade Iron Ore-coal Mini-pellets in Coal-based Rotary Kiln

In this present work, research of reduction process was studied by dissection of rotary kiln (φ1.5m×15m) in order to provide fine guidance to larger-scale operation. It is shown that the average reduction degree and metallization ratio are 89.96% and 85.15% respectively when the highest temperature is 977℃ and residence time is 90min. The maximum value of metallic iron formation which accounts for 86.45% of the total occurs in the length of 11.5m to 7.5m along rotary kiln. The section of lower temperature of 830～900℃ plays an important role in formation of metallic iron, which makes it possible for mini-pellet to reduce quickly at lower temperature. Two main tasks are completed for mini-pellets in rotary kiln: the reduction of iron oxides in the range of 15.0～4.5m; And migration and enrichment of metallic iron nucleus which facilitates the subsequent separation of iron and gangue minerals.
