||Numerical Simulation of Volatilization of Fluoride Slag in Vacuum Electroslag Remelting Process and its Laboratory Validation

The volatilization of fluoride is supposed to be one of the main reasons of the composition change of slag during the electroslag remelting (ESR) process. When the remelting atmosphere changes into the vacuum condition, the volatilization may be more intense. Due to the opaque reactor and the vacuum vessel, this process is hard to observe and measure. In this context a transient mathematical model was proposed to predict the volatilization of fluoride slag during the vacuum electroslag remelting (VSR) process. The thermodynamic mechanism of volatilization was clarified, and the corresponding kinetic model was established. Besides, the electromagnetic field, velocity distribution, temperature distribution and species transport were also included in the coupled model. A laboratory experiment was implemented to correct and validate the model.
