||Evolution of physicochemical properties of tundish covering flux in continuous casting process

It is benefit to identify the mechanism of absorbing inclusions by clarifying the physical and chemical properties of tundish covering flux during continuous casting. The composition, melting point, viscosity, surface tension of covering flux of a factory are tested and analyzed. The results demonstrate that the high melting point component are enriched with the increase of the number of pouring furnaces. The content of SiO2 and MgO in the covering flux at the end of casting increased fivefold compared with the beginning, resulting in the melting point of the covering flux rising from 1325 °C to 1345 °C. Furthermore, the viscosity of covering flux increases by 0.1 Pa·s and the surface tension also increases by 100 mN/m at 1500 °C, which makes the adsorption capacity of coating agent to inclusions become worse. Moreover, the increase in flux stabilizes the performances such as viscosity and surface tension of covering flux.
