Presentation Title Specific Features of Dian-dian Bauxite Processing Including Aspects of Boehmite Reversion

Abstract Scope UC RUSAL is currently implementing a large-scale project on mining and transportation of high-grade Dian-Dian tropical bauxite (Guinea). Start-up of Dian-Dian Bauxite and Alumina Complex will secure long term economic efficiency for operation of major European alumina refineries (Nikolaev Alumina Refinery (NGZ, Ukraine), Eurallumina (EA, Sardinia, Italy). Technological properties of Dian-Dian bauxite desilication and digestion processes were studied in broad temperature range. The slurry was digested to achieve the maximum A/C ratio in the digested slurry that provides for the maximum energy efficiency in Bayer process. Modes for use of this bauxite for main and sweetening streams were developed. Possibility and amount of boehmite reversion for process parameters of the existing refineries were studied, condition range where boehmite is thermodynamically-stable was determined. As a result, optimization models for refineries to switch over to new raw materials were developed.
