||Structure, Texture and Mechanical Properties of Ultrafine Grained Mg-Al-Zn-Mn Alloy after Radial-shift Rolling

One of the new ways allowing to form ultrafine-grained (UFG) structure is the radial-shift rolling (RSR). Influence of the temperature and deformation parameters on formation of uniform UFG structure on the cross section of bars of Mg alloy AZ 41 (MA2-1 in Russian standart) is studied. RSR was carried out with gradual reduction of diameter from 58 to 15 mm and reduction of deformation temperature from 420 to 140°C. A final state of the samples at the rolling temperature 140°C represents relatively uniform UFG structure with the average grain size ~1.5 micron. With reduction of the grain size the strength increases up to YS =200 MPa, and UTS=330 MPa with EL=14%.
