| Abstract Scope |
Interest in exploring the role of strain rate in deformation and failure mechanisms of materials is rapidly increasing. Dynamic conditions such as blast and high strain rate loading have been of interest in recent times. Available studies on blast response of metals and metal matrix composites are reviewed in this presentation to identify significant factors that contribute to the high strain rate response. Laboratory and field test methods, materials response including microstructural parameters contributing to damage mitigation, energy absorption mechanisms, and prominent failure mechanisms are discussed. Future research directions and requirements in this field are identified through critical analysis of the existing studies. |
