||Compositional Effect on Temperature-induced Atomic Structure Evolution in Liquid Ga-In, Ga-Sn and In-Sn Alloys

Low eutectic temperatures, negligible vapor pressure and low toxicity in Ga-In, Ga-Sn and In-Sn alloy systems make it possible to study the structure and properties of such metallic liquids in a wide temperature range of about 1000 K. Here, we present experimental and theoretical results on the existence of a reversible abnormal structure change in liquid Ga-In, Ga-Sn and In-Sn alloys in the temperature range of about 400-650 K for different compositions by using in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. Below and above the temperature interval, liquids exhibit different behaviors in structural, dynamical, and electronic properties. Particularly significant is the change of major peak positions of S(q) and G(r), coordination number around Ga and In atoms as well as bond-orientation order parameter Q6 in Ga-In and Ga-Sn alloy.
