Abstract Scope |
In this study, ECAP was used to improve the mechanical properties of AA7075 sheet metal. Different approaches, such as channel geometry, forming temperature and post-treatment time, were tested for the ECAP-route C. The specimens were evaluated by tensile testing and compared to reference specimens in the artificially aged T6 condition. The goal was to optimize the time- and energy-consuming artificial ageing procedure.
The results show that a 75 % reduction in artificial aging time still resulted in an 11 % increase in yield strength due to ECAP. In addition the elongation at fracture is strongly influenced by ECAP. Therefore, tensile tests on a conductive heated test bench were performed to point out the potential for hot forming processes.
From the results of the tests, it is shown that ECAP for sheet metal enables an efficient production of high strength aluminum and thus makes a contribution to a more sustainable production. |
