Presentation Title Experimental Research on Dephosphorization of Mn-Si Alloys Based on CaO-CaF2 Slag System

Abstract Scope To reduce phosphorus content in Mn-Si alloys, experiments were conducted in SiMo furnace filled argon using CaO-CaF2 and CaO-CaF2-SiO2-Al2O3, respectively, as covering slags, and Al-based dephosphorization agent. The results show that the dephosphorization ratio rises with increase in amount of adding the agent, and it can reach 80%, when using 44%CaO-15%CaF2-6%SiO2-34%Al2O3 and 10% the agent. Furthermore, contrary to the dephosphorization slag from CaO-CaF2 slag system, the ultimate slag from CaO-CaF2-SiO2-Al2O3 slag system characterizes no pulverization after staying in air for long time. Finally, excessive Al in the agent will react with C and P in Mn-Si alloy and form AlP and Al4C3, which can make the alloy powder after those two substances contact the humid air which entered into the alloy through the tiny cracks caused by volume mutation of phases in the process of alloy solidification, hence the usage of the agent ought to be not more than 8%.
