||Development of Innovative Aluminum Alloys with High Mechanical Properties

In modern practice standard materials do not satisfy the rigorous requirements for applications. Paper represents thermodynamic modeling of innovative aluminum alloys with better mechanical properties for high temperature applications. Using different combinations of alloying elements and specific temperature regime the modeling of controled solidification and heat treatment was used. Alloys systems Al-X-Y (X=Si, Cu, Mg; Y=Zr, Mo, V) were investigated using thermodynamic equilibrium calculations (ThermoCalc), thermal analysis, and optical and scanning electron microscopy, in order to analyze the microstructure evolution. Stady of influnence of chemical composition on phase development (type, and amount of phases) and on equilibrium and non-equilibrium solidification and cooling was done. The characteristic solidification temperatures and mechanical properties for laboratory and industrial aluminum alloys were analyzed.
It was established that the optimal combination of alloying elements to investigated alloy can slightly improve the mechanical properties in as-cast state and significantly in T6 heat treated state.
